1. DT Da’Shawn Hand

An elite recruit for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Da’Shawn Hand had to wait behind some excellent players in college, and never truly realized his immense potential. Still, he flashed enough talent for the Lions to make him a fourth-round pick, and that selection was quickly rewarded.

He had a great rookie year, playing good run defense and generating that oh-so-valuable interior pressure. Elbow and ankle injuries forced him to miss 13 games in 2019, and he missed six games in 2020.

Hand has ended all three of his pro seasons on injured reserve, which is a concern. It also means his price is likely to be significantly less than what he’s truly worth as a player. He’s got one more year left on his rookie deal, and if he can make it through 2021 (mostly) injury-free, he could be a serious extension candidate with the Browns, who desperately need iDL help, especially the kind that can rush the passer.

The Lions are in a really bad situation right now as a team, and new head coach Dan Campbell’s introductory press conference probably didn’t make anyone feel better, as entertaining as it was. Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry would be wise to call and see who is available.
