4. EDGE Marcus Davenport

Another good young player, Marcus Davenport is only 24 and now has three seasons of quality play under his belt. Injuries limited his snaps in 2020, but he was still very effective, providing consistent pressure and providing strong run defense.

The Saints gave up a lot to move up to pick No. 14 to land Davenport in 2018, viewing him as one of the final pieces to their Super Bowl puzzle. They won’t be able to keep him long-term, and even exercising his fifth-year option is not a guarantee, since they flat-out can’t afford it right now.

The Browns need to find a starter opposite Myles Garrett at EDGE, as Olivier Vernon is a free agent and rehabbing from an ACL tear, and neither Adrian Clayborn nor Porter Gustin is a starting-caliber player right now. Davenport could be a great short-term answer and would net the team a solid compensatory when inevitably signing a big free-agent contract with another squad.

Cleveland certainly wouldn’t be Davenport’s only suitor if he were available, but New Orleans doesn’t have any leverage right now, and even if Davenport cost a significant amount, a good portion of that would be recouped in a few seasons, to say nothing of the on-field play he would provide.
