The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including some tough decisions they have with their own free agents

The Cleveland Browns had success in 2020 and at times, that success can come with a price. For the Browns, that price can be seen in them trying to make decisions about their roster going forward.

While most of us look to the offseason and think about roster moves, we often tend to consider who could be added in free agency and who could be drafted. But there are other decisions to make as well, like which of their own free agents do they need to re-sign — and for how much.

Right now, that’s something the Cleveland front office is going to have to decide with several key contributors. Players such as Terrance Mitchell, Rashard Higgins, Karl Joseph, and Larry Ogunjobi are just some of the names ready to hit the open market.

So which of these players do they sign and considering the success they had in 2020, which of these players deserve a significant raise. Another question to ask, is which of these players can be replaced with someone already on the roster, a lower priced-free agent, or perhaps a draft pick?

Today’s Daily Dawg Tags looks at these tough decisions the team will have to figure out this offseason.

Cleveland Browns News

Browns have decisions to make on their own free agents — Dan Labbe, Cleveland.com

"“Even Rashard Higgins, who had to once again prove himself to a front office that waited forever to sign him and a coaching staff who waited weeks to give him meaningful snaps, could have an uncertain future. What is his longterm role and what are the Browns’ longterm plans at the position? It’s hard to believe he wouldn’t be back, but you just never know what can happen once the offseason hits.”"

Last year, Higgins was a player the front office likely thought they could replace. Thankfully, he never signed elsewhere and when Cleveland realized they didn’t adequately replace him, they were able to re-sign him. Now, Higgins proved he deserves a raise, but the question is what the Browns can afford.

Browns players always will remember the gleam in Marty Schottenheimer’s eyes — Jake Trotter, ESPN

"“Schottenheimer never did win a Super Bowl. But the gleam was never just about a trophy anyway. It was about the journey — the wins and the losses — and the relationships forged along the way.”"

Marty Schottenheimer was a great football coach who had a lot of success in the NFL. Having said that, it’s clear by the way his former players and colleagues speak about him now that he has passed, that he was an even greater man. Marty made this world a better place by being in it and Cleveland should be grateful to have been a part of his journey. We can’t say it enough, but thank you for the memories coach.

Browns first-round mock draft roundup (2/10/21) — Dawgs by Nature, Thomas Moore

"“The 2020 NFL season came to an end on Sunday with Super Bowl 55, so now the league’s general managers are turning their attention to the offseason.”"

There are several players here but every mock draft Moore finds has one thing in common — it’s a defensive player. And they’re probably right, the Browns are likely hitting that side of the ball in Round 1.
