Which NFL quarterbacks should be ranked ahead of Baker Mayfield?
By Nick Swanson
Matthew Stafford – Los Angeles Rams
Trade Possibility: No
I had very low expectations coming into the 2020 NFL season for former Detroit Lion and now Los Angeles Ram, Matthew Stafford. An aging quarterback who’s coming off a serious injury, say I don’t know a broken back, is not a promising scenario for any player let alone a team. Stafford proved myself and all other doubters wrong when he came out and balled out. The 33-year-old veteran carried a very poorly coached and not very talented Lions team to five wins.
With the blockbuster trade shipping Jared Goff, who is not on this list because I’m not insane, to Detroit and Matthew Stafford to the Rams, it shook up NFC. Stafford’s talent is still there and he showed that a broken back won’t slow him down. Pairing him with Sean McVay and the weapons that the Rams have, this team is my favorite to win the NFC West and the NFC as a whole.
We know the player that Stafford once was and if he continues to play like it then he could realistically be a top-five or six quarterback in the league. If he had not had the great year that he did in 2020, he wouldn’t be on this list. Depending on Mayfield’s growth, he could easily surpass Stafford in a couple of years if it doesn’t happen in 2021.
