3. Ricardo Allen – Safety

While the Cleveland Browns’ biggest need now in the secondary is at cornerback, they will also need depth at safety with Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo likely out of the 2021 plans. Sheldrick Redwine has shown some promise at times but can also look clueless on the field as well.

Ricardo Allen who has spent all seven years of his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons has recently been released. He was a full-time starter the last three seasons but has missed 17 games over the last three years and has become a bit of a liability.

The good news for the Browns, they would not need Allen to play a starting role. He would be strictly on special teams and a backup for when injuries happen. Unfortunately for the Browns, injuries have happened so often in the secondary recently, you can almost count on Allen having to start five or six games if they picked him up.

That is exactly why Allen would be valuable to the Browns. He would be like Chris Hubbard on the offensive line. Not a tremendous starter in the league, but as good of a backup that there is. If defensive coordinator Joe Woods really wants to push the dime 4-2-5 scheme, having a strong backup safety to go with Ronnie Harrison and Grant Delpit would be critical.
