2. Kawann Short – Defensive Tackle

With many believing that Sheldon Richardson could be a cap casualty veteran for the Browns, the team may look to replace him with another veteran. Kawann Short could fit perfectly at the right price. He has been a dominant defensive tackle at times but has struggled to stay on the field as of late.

In 2018 Short made the pro-bowl with 42 tackles, 3 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss in 14 total games. In the two years since Short has only played in five total games which is a major red flag.

The good news for the Browns, they don’t need short to play 80 percent of the snaps, they can utilize him as the third defensive tackle behind Jordan Elliott and Andrew Billings. Both Elliott and Billings are more knows as run stuffers, so bringing in Short on obvious passing downs would be a great luxury.

The injuries are a huge concern, but if Short is healthy now and can pass a physical, why not sign him to a short-term deal at a huge discount if he can still contribute. If things don’t work out in 2021 you move on and you’ve wasted little money, if it goes great you can attempt to sign him for another year to help the defense once again.

This may be a bit too much risk for Berry to pull the trigger, but one he should seriously consider.
