Rashard Higgins

The Rashard Higgins saga is a strange one for sure. He was a fifth-round pick in 2016 and has been with the Cleveland Browns all five years he’s been in the league. After a continual improvement in his first three years in the league, he had just four receptions for just 55 yards in 2019.

There were rumors that he and head coach Freddie Kitchens didn’t always see eye to eye, and there were many weeks when Higgins wasn’t even on the active roster.

The strangest part about this story is he still came back on a one-year deal in 2020, mainly because of his strong relationship with Mayfield. As the third receiver, Higgins made a lot of great plays last season and became an even bigger piece of the puzzle after the injury to Beckham.  Higgins ended the year with 37 catches for 599 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Will Higgins come back once again? After signing the $910,000 contract in 2020, Higgins will likely want to get paid. While most fans would love to see him back, I think there will be a better opportunity for him with another team.

The emergence of Peoples-Jones and Higgins’s inabilities in man coverage will keep Berry from overspending to keep the long-time Brown. It will certainly be a sad day seeing Higgins move on, but it seems to be likely after a great five years in Cleveland. He’s one the fans will root for no matter where he ends up.
