With free agency on the horizon, teams have been releasing veterans in order to clear up cap space. One such team is the Green Bay Packers who cut two players just one season after signing them. Veteran linebacker Christian Kirksey, who was with the Browns from 2014 through 2019, was one of those cuts as was offensive tackle Ricky Wagner.

A product of Wisconsin, Wagner was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens back in 2015 in the fifth round and then spent four seasons there. He was a starter in two games as a rookie before starting 45 of the next 46 games he played for the Ravens.

Wagner was rewarded in free agency with a five-year contract from the Detroit Lions who played him at right tackle for the next three years. He started all 40 games he played but was released ahead of 2020. That’s when the Packers gave him a two-year deal worth $11 million as he replaced Bryan Bulaga.

However, Wagner is now a free agent as Green Bay needed the space. For Cleveland, he’s a player who would bring a lot of starting experience and while they’re set at both left and right tackle, they did struggle with injuries last season.

Not only did Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin miss one game each, but they both had to leave games during the season, and Wills was injured during the playoff run. On top of that, their top reserve Chris Hubbard also suffered as knee injury late in the season meaning they don’t know how healthy their primary swing tackle will be.

For those reasons, Wagner could be a solid signing, provided the price is right that is.
