2. CB Gareon Conley

Taking flyers on talented former first-round picks is something that this front office seems to enjoy doing, so bringing in Gareon Conley makes almost too much sense for it to happen. The 24th overall pick in 2017, Conley spent two-and-a-half inconsistent seasons with the Raiders before being dealt to the Houston Texans for a third-round pick. He played fine for the team in 2019 but missed all of 2020 due to an ankle injury. He missed most of 2017 due to a shin injury, so it’s just been one thing after another for him thus far into his career.

Conley is 6-0 195 pounds, which seems gigantic compared to the majority of Cleveland’s cornerback room. He has all the athletic ability needed to be a great player, but has been unable to put it all together in between injuries. If he were to join the Browns, he wouldn’t need to be counted on as a starter, but would instead compete for playing time with Greedy Williams and a likely top-58 draft pick; it seems like whoever is healthiest will get the starting nod opposite Denzel Ward.

Alternative: Sidney Jones

Another talented player, Jones was destined to be a high pick before tearing his achilles at Washington’s pro day. He fell to the second round where the Philadelphia Eagles scooped him up, and although he’s dealt with injuries, he’s begun to figure things out over the past few seasons. He’d provide six at 6-0 181 pounds and on a cheap one-year deal, could turn a good, healthy campaign into a nice contract with another team.
