1. Jadaveon Clowney – Defensive End

The one name that fans continue to be torn on is Jadeveon Clowney. This is a guy who has struggled to stay on the field and has a total of three sacks in the last two seasons. I’d be lying if I said there was zero concern with how motivated he is to be a great player.

Another issue that leaves a bad taste in Brown’s fans’ mouths is how the pursuit ended last time. It’s all but confirmed that the Browns offered more money to Clowney, but he chose to go to the Titans instead. Personally, that doesn’t bother me, but I understand the beef some have.

Why do I buy into Clowney? While he has shown he isn’t a true number one rusher on a team, he has shown he can be a dominant number two on a roster.  In 2017 and 2018 when paired with J.J. Watt, Clowney had 9 and then 9.5 sacks in back-to-back years.

Let’s also not forget that Clowney is an elite run defender.  In a three-year span, Clowney had 53 tackles for loss. I’m not sure if the Browns roster has that many in a three-year span (joking).

Bottom line, while Clowney has some risks, I think at the right price he is the perfect fit. Not only could he resurrect his career, but he could also put the Browns defense to the next level.

A defensive line with Garret, Clowney, and McKinley coming off the edge could be deadly for opposing quarterbacks.
