4 Cleveland Browns on the hot seat after free agency

A fourth-round pick out of Miami in 2019, Sheldrick Redwine has been thrust into action several times over the past two seasons as the Browns have been dealing with a lot of injuries at safety. In all, he’s played in 27 games (with eight starts) and has fared well at times.
Redwine has 69 tackles, three pass defenses, and an interception. Unfortunately, he’s also had his issues.
In 2020, for example, he was targeted eight times in pass coverage according to Pro Football Reference and gave up six receptions. As a rookie, he was better in terms of percentage allowed, but still gave up nine catches on 16 attempts for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Cleveland has tried the past two seasons to upgrade the secondary — investing a lot of resources in the process. They used a second-round pick on Grant Delpit after signing Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo in free agency. They also traded a late-round pick for Ronnie Harrison after Delpit tore his Achilles.
This year, they did lose Joseph and Sendejo but added John Johnson (and will get Delpit back as well). There’s also been talk that they could add even more help to the secondary in the draft, which means Redwine is a player who finds himself on the bubble.
