Cleveland Browns: 5 biggest impact prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft
By Sam Penix
3. Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
General manager Andrew Berry will be failing his team if he does not address wide receiver early.
The Browns are in a Super Bowl window for the next few seasons, and if they wish to win it all, they must be able to score more than 17 points against a subpar Kansas City Chiefs defense.
Odell Beckham Jr. can fix the issue, but it’s better to not count on that happening given his injury history.
The long-term outlook of the WR room is cloudy at best, so adding some early talent this year is a great way to soften that blow in the future. Rashod Bateman is an excellent prospect who has experience sharing targets with an NFL receiver in Tyler Johnson.
He has 4.39 speed with excellent route running ability, body control, and ball skills. Bateman can thrive in the slot our outside, and provide a great YAC and vertical threat. He’d open the underneath up for the tight ends, running game, and Jarvis Landry, and give Baker Mayfield a target that opposing defenses must respect.
Bateman averaged over 20 yards per catch in 2019 and Mayfield is the best deep passer in the NFL. It’s a perfect fit, and Cleveland should be running their card in immediately if he’s still on the board at pick No. 26.
