Round 2, Pick 59: Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse

After holding off on a cornerback in the first, the Cleveland Browns are rewarded for their patience in the second. At No. 59 overall Ifeatu Melifonwu from Syracuse is still on the board and they gladly turn his card in.

Melifonwu is the younger brother of Obi Melifonwu, who was never able to live up to his pre-draft hype back in 2017. That shouldn’t be held against the younger Melifonwu, who is an impressive player for the Orange (and it only makes sense for him to graduate from the Orange to the Orange and Brown).

An absolute star at the Senior Bowl, Melifonwu showed he can play in man and zone against anyone and his 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame makes him even more enticing as a boundary corner.

Round 3, Pick 89: Marlon Tuipulotu, DT, USC

It wasn’t ideal to see the Browns release Sheldon Richardson but it was actually an understandable move. While he’s still a very good player, he was set to make $13 million and that’s a lot to pay when you have other options such as Andrew Billings, Jordan Elliott, and Jordan Elliott on the roster.

Of course, the Browns do still need some depth at the position and they land that with USC’s Marlon Tuipulotu at No. 89. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 308-pounds, Tuipulotu is able to play all three downs but with the current depth chart in Cleveland, he would surely be a rotational player at first with the ability to start down the road.
