Round 4, Pick No. 132: Cameron Sample, EDGE, Tulane

Back on the clock for the third time in the fourth round, Cleveland again looks for a depth piece as they take Tulane EDGE Cameron Sample at No. 132. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 267-pounds and is praised for his ability to set the edge in the running game.

Of course, when it comes to defensive ends, we all want to see them get after the quarterback but this is an important part of the job as well. Sample would spend 2021 behind Jadevoen Clowney, Myles Garrett, and Takk McKinley but with Clowney and Takk on one-year deals, he could be asked to do more the following season.

Round 5, Pick No. 169: Talanoa Hufanga, S, USC

Cleveland added John Johnson III in the offseason which means they now have three players capable of starting at safety with Johnson, Ronnie Harrison, and Grant Delpit. They also could use Owusu-Koramoah as a safety on third downs, which is probably going to happen more often than not.

That doesn’t mean they don’t need to add more depth since Sheldrick Redwine is the primary reserve behind their top three — and Delpit is returning from a torn Achilles. This leads to the selection of Talanoa Hufanga out of USC.

The second Trojan added in our Day 3 Browns mock draft, Hufanga is another player who could shine as a run defender in the third-safety role in Joe Woods’ scheme. He’s also able to get after the quarterback and should be able to offer them a decent option as a reserve safety.
