What 2021 NFL draft means for Cleveland Browns linebackers
By Greg Newland
Anthony Walker
By now, fans are tired of hearing me say it, but Anthony Walker will go down as one of the best free agency signings in 2021. While spending the last four seasons with the Colts, Walker has done nothing but shine, however, he continued to be in the shadows of All-Pro Darius Leonard.
Walker has 321 tackles over the last three seasons and has started 46 of a possible 48 games for the Colts. He may be below average in pass coverage, but Walker will be the workhorse for the Browns in 2021 at linebacker.
The veteran linebacker has the instincts in the running game to be dominant and will be surrounded by athleticism and a strong pass rush to help make him better in coverage. Although I agree with not paying Joe Shobert as much money as Jacksonville did, I see him having the same type of production but on a team that is so much better.
Cleveland head into the season with seven guys who all have experience playing in the NFL, but I would expect only five to make the roster with one other linebacker that is specifically a special teams player.
Takitaki seems like he has a real uphill battle to make the final roster now, and the last spot is likely between Wilson and Smith.
Truthfully, I’m rooting for Wilson to bounce back from his knee injury and have a strong 2021 season. He has shown flashes, but just not the consistency.
