Ohio State Buckeyes defensive tackle Tommy Togiai (72) tries to tackle Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence (16) on a run during the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.College Football Playoff Ohio State Faces Clemson In Sugar Bowl /

Round 4, Pick 132: Tommy Togiai, DT, Ohio State

No change here. The team needed a defensive tackle, as only Jordan Elliott was under contract for the 2022 season. Tommy Togiai didn’t play a ton of snaps in college, but he was extremely effective when he was on the field.

He’s extremely strong and agile, and was a very disruptive one-tech for the Buckeyes. He dominated Clemson’s offensive line in the College Football Playoff, and the Ohio State defense missed him dearly in the Championship Game against Alabama. Haskell Garrett could be a high pick in 2022, but Togiai was the linchpin of the line, and it’s easy to see why.

Togiai may have to play more one-tech as a rookie depending on what undrafted free agent Marvin Wilson can do, but his long-term fit could be as a three-tech for Cleveland. He has plenty of explosion and agility to play there, and his long-term ceiling is very high.

There were multiple defensive tackles available at this spot that should never have been available, but Togiai was the best. For a player that many thought could have easily gone in the second round, the Browns got him at an incredible value. He should be a solid contributor as a rookie and a starter down the road.
