Passer Rating

"Lamar Jackson: 102.6 Josh Allen: 90.4 Baker Mayfield: 89.1 Mason Rudolph: 82.7 Sam Darnold: 78.6 Josh Rosen: 63.5"

If you expected someone else besides Lamar to top this list, well, you were wrong. During his MVP campaign in 2019, Lamar posted a passer rating of 113.3, which is absolutely crazy. For comparison, Tom Brady’s career average passer rating is 97.3.

Both Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield saw drastic improvements from years two to three in passer rating, and Baker’s career passer rating would be higher than Josh Allen’s if you take out his 2019 performance.

Unexpectedly, Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold sit at the bottom of this list. Both of them have definitely had the worst situations of the group surrounding their careers, but that isn’t really a great excuse for how their careers have been so far. The biggest surprise here is that Mason Rudolph is above both of them, especially considering he has been a career backup up to this point.

For the future, I would expect to see this list stay the same in the rankings, but for the top three to see their passer ratings really improve. All of them have improved surrounding casts entering 2021, so if they are actually the real deal as franchise quarterbacks as I believe, then they will start to get in that Tom Brady level of passer rating.
