Edge Rusher

During the offseason, the Browns decided to part ways with both Olivier Vernon and Adrian Clayborn. But they upgraded both of their slots by bringing in Jadeveon Clowney and Takkarist McKinley.

Many sites had edge rushers as one of the top needs for the Browns going into the draft. It is interesting that they did not select an edge rusher throughout the entire draft. This may point to the idea that the front office is higher on some players in-house than most analysts.

Myles Garrett remains the cornerstone of the entire defense. Porter Gustin, who played well in limited snaps last season, seems to be the front runner for the fourth player in the edge rusher rotation. However, Curtis Weaver could steal that spot from him depending on his recovery from injury.

This position, again, is set up nicely to rotate players in and out of the game. While Garrett and Clowney should see significant playing time, other players should see the field as well.

There is also the possibility of Clowney moving down the line. His strength and run-stopping prowess make him a versatile piece along the defensive line. Look for Joe Woods to possibly have Garrett, Clowney, and McKinley on the field at the same time at some points during the 2021 season.
