2. Tommy Togiai, DT

The Cleveland Browns selection before Tony Fields came just 21 picks earlier, which is where they landed Tommy Togiai. The 132nd overall choice in the draft, Togiai was the Browns second pick in Round 4 — and fans were thrilled to hear his name called since he was a star for Ohio State.

As a junior in 2020, Togiai had 23 tackles with 4.5 going for a loss and three sacks. He also had two pass defenses and a forced fumble for the Buckeyes. He might have done well to return for his senior season, as teammate Haskell Garrett did (he will be a redshirt senior).

Having said that, it’s hard to ever fault a player for being ready to turn pro and Togiai did land with a good team for trying to make it in the NFL. As it stands now, the defensive tackle position has a lot of bodies but nothing is truly set.

Both starters from 2020 are gone as Larry Ogunjobi joined the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency and Sheldon Richardson was released in a cost-saving move. Andrew Billings and Malik Jackson are projected starters but Jackson is over 30 and has injury concerns and Billings has never played for Cleveland after opting out of 2020.

Jordan Elliott, Damion Square, Sheldon Day, and Marvin Wilson will also be in the mix — and Malik McDowell is a wild card — but Togiai is a solid three-technique who can offer a quick interior rusher with a non-stop motor. He should have his opportunities this season as Joe Woods likes to rotate his lineman, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him thrive when he gets those chances.
