QB Hits
"TJ Watt: 111 Myles Garrett & Carl Lawson: 83 Derek Barnett: 65 Deatrich Wise: 56 Takkarist Mckinley: 45 Trey Hendrickson: 43 Haason Reddick & Dawuane Smoot: 32 Tyus Bowser: 29"
The best EDGE defenders are the guys who can wreak havoc in the backfield, and that isn’t always done through sacks. Tackles for loss and just straight up hitting the quarterback (when legal) are some of the best ways an EDGE defender can set the tone of a game.
Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt have been the best in their class at doing this, but a surprise in this was seeing that Carl Lawson was tied with Myles Garrett for QB Hits.
Lawson’s success on the Bengals is overshadowed in the division by Watt’s success with the Steelers and Garrett’s success with the Cleveland Browns, but it should be noted how good this 2017 NFL draft class was for the AFC North. Each team got a solid pass rusher out of it, with the Ravens also picking up Tyus Bowser in the second round.
