Wide Receiver

Perhaps the biggest hole on the roster at the moment for the Cleveland Browns. I get it, they have a ton of talent and money wrapped up at the position, but in the last two seasons, there has been a very limited return on investment.

Not only are the Browns paying a lot of money for Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, but they also gave up a lot to get Beckham on the roster. At times when the Browns have had him on the field, he has been great, but unfortunately, injuries have overshadowed production.

My biggest fear for the 2021 season is the Browns will have four capable starters, but none that really stand out. Landry and Beckham will be decent. Landry is a great possession receiver but can struggle in man-to-man coverage.

Beckham can be great, but injuries the last two years have slowed him down. I’m not sure there is any reason to believe he isn’t high risk again in 2021. Let’s not forget, he and Mayfield haven’t always been on the same page either. Many would argue that Mayfield was better after Beckham was out last season.

Rashard Higgins and Donovan Peoples-Jones are also solid third receiving options. Higgins is another great possession player who is in sync with Mayfield, while Peoples-Jones is a big athletic target who can hit the home run for you every once in a while. The issue, the Browns need two great receivers in this offense, not four that they throw together every week.

If Beckham stays healthy and gets on the same page as Mayfield, there are zero issues. However, if history repeats itself, the Browns could be looking at a major turnover in the position group in 2022.
