5. CB Darqueze Dennard

A first-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals back in the 2014 NFL Draft, Darqueze Dennard has been a relative disappointment to his draft status, but he’s been a quality player for seven years now. He’s entirely capable of starting and not being a liability, which is really all you can ask for from a cheap depth guy.

Dennard has plenty of experience both in the slot and on the outside, and his versatility would be a major selling point for the Browns, who have an excellent starting secondary on paper but who still lack depth all around the defense.

Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome, Greedy Williams, and Troy Hill are expected to play a lot as long as they are healthy, but the first three names mentioned all have concerning injury histories. It would be wise for Cleveland to not have to rely on the likes of Robert Jackson, M.J. Stewart, or A.J. Green in key moments in playoff games like they did last season.

Dennard played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 and carried just an $800k cap hit, which is about two-thirds of what Stewart will make. Dennard can provide better play and more versatility than the rest of the depth guys the Browns currently have, and he’s logged a lot of special teams snaps over the years.
