5 worst moves of the Cleveland Browns 2021 offseason

4. Losing Tavierre Thomas
Special teams is a very important phase of the game, and the Browns weren’t too great there last season. It will be difficult to improve in 2021 now that their best special teamer, Tavierre Thomas is gone. He spent the past three seasons as one of the NFL’s premier third phase members, and while he really struggled when forced to play defensive snaps, that was never his place on the roster.
The Houston Texans signed Thomas to a two-year deal worth $4 million, which Thomas certainly deserves. It’s understandable why the Browns would be unwilling to pay that much to a special teamer only, but perhaps Thomas would’ve stayed in Cleveland for less money on a longer-term deal with more guaranteed money.
As it stands, the team will need to find a replacement, and while they have a lot of guys who could end up playing significant roles on special teams, it is unlikely any will be as good as Thomas.
Special teamers do the dirty work and are rarely noticed unless they are responsible for allowing a big play; hopefully, the overall unit is good enough to not lose Cleveland any games, and perhaps to win them one.
