4 Biggest Underdogs on the 2021 Cleveland Browns Roster
By Greg Newland
3. Tommy Togiai, Defensive Tackle
If there is any hole on this roster, the eye quickly goes to defensive tackle. Sheldon Richardson and Larry Ogunjobi were the two starters in 2020, and both are currently off the roster. Jordan Elliott and Andrew Billings will be the favorites to land the starting job come week one, but rookie Tommy Togiai could be an underdog that really shines.
It may be a stretch to call the fourth-round pick from Ohio State an underdog, he was so productive at the collegiate level, but transitioning to the NFL is so difficult. However, I think Togiai has a real shot this year to be a big piece of the defense.
He may not steal the starting job from Elliott or Billings but look for him to solidify himself as the third defensive tackle on this roster and to make an impact immediately. Togiai has shown he can be a great run defender as well as collapse a pocket in passing situations.
There is no doubt that Togiai will need to work hard this offseason to make this happen, but his work ethic can easily make this possible. All of these players will be happy to have some normalcy back, and you will see young guys really prosper from the extra practice time compared to 2020.
