4 Biggest Underdogs on the 2021 Cleveland Browns Roster
By Greg Newland
1. Mack Wilson, Linebacker
One of the most loved and least productive players in 2020 was linebacker Mack Wilson. After a strong rookie campaign in 2019, he was just a step behind last year. A knee injury in training camp slowed him down early, and he just never looked right. In fact, you could almost tell he knew he wasn’t right and then he began overthinking which made things even worse.
I’m ready to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt last year and say that he will really surprise a ton of fans that have put him on the backburner after the addition of Anthony Walker in free agency and the draft pick of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
Wilson has a motor that doesn’t stop, and the athleticism to be a very good NFL linebacker. He just must trust his instincts and follow his keys. His biggest issue is trying to make too many big plays and getting out of position.
With an offseason to recover from injury and study tape, as well as a new defensive scheme, I expect a nice year from Wilson.
He’s not going to push Walker, JOK, or Jacob Phillips off the field, but will be another guy that will step in when an injury happens and really shine.
