Nick Chubb: Making a difference

If you just go back to last season and see how the Browns did in the four games that Chubb missed, you’ll recognize there is a huge difference. The Browns didn’t produce one rushing touchdown in Chubb’s absence in those four games. Their team rushing average dropped to under 100 yards per game too and they managed a 2-2 record. Including a 38-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

When Chubb returned to the lineup, the Browns running yards increased to 141 yard per game and they went 7-3 the rest of the way.

Without Chubb in that lineup the rest of the way, I don’t think the Browns would have made the playoffs. His huge efforts in the wins over Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles were very important to the success of last season’s playoff run.

Intangibles

In that win against the Texans, when Chubb had the fore for all to run out of bounds prior to scoring a touchdown, to then allow the Browns to run out the clock and take a knee and win a relatively close game against them, showed everything that Chubb is all about.

He’s all about getting the job done for his team and these last three seasons are certainly strong indications he’d be that same unselfish player with his next contract.

It’s the little things, yet big in the running back world where Chubb has an uncanny ability to read defenses during a game and then have the vision to find the gaps and then exploit those weaknesses later. When you start studying other running backs around the NFL, you quickly see for yourself that what Chubb is able to do is head and shoulders above some other backs in the league.

His cutbacks stiff arms on defenders are all quickly becoming legendary. That area will certainly grow as Chubb enters his prime years of playing.
