3 Cleveland Browns who need a big July to make the roster
By Greg Newland
1. Rashard Higgins, Wide Receiver
The Cleveland Browns wide receiver room is one of the strangest situations I have ever seen. On one side I argue that it may be the weakest position on the roster. But at the same time, I would argue, you may see a surprise cut because there is so much depth.
This is the Cleveland Cavaliers in LeBron’s second stint all over. They have a couple of great receivers in Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry, but the supporting cast is very average, and they just have so many of them.
Keep in mind folks, Stefanski usually only has two receivers on the field at a time, and hardly ever has four. With the addition of Anthony Schwartz in the third round of the 2021 draft, why does the team need five receivers that can be on the field?
Who’s that leave out? Donovan Peoples-Jones or Rashard Higgins. And even though everyone loves Higgins, Peoples-Jones has the higher ceiling and gives the team a deep threat that they desperately need.
I’m not saying the Browns will release Higgins, but I am saying he may find himself unhappy in Cleveland if he doesn’t have a huge July and show the coaching staff he is the third-best wide receiver on the team.
If not, he could find himself at the fifth spot on the depth chart and not hardly seeing the field in 2021.
