Availability: Trade target in 2022

Entering the 2021 season, the Browns have a lot of talent at cornerback but they also have a lot of questions. All three of their primary outside cornerbacks have serious injury concerns.

Denzel Ward has missed 11 games in his first three NFL seasons and Greedy Williams missed all of the 2020 season after having to sit out four games as a rookie the year prior. They added Greg Newsome II with their first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft but he too has had serious durability concerns.

Newsome played in 17 games while missing 14 during his time at Northwestern — with eight games in 2019 being the most he has ever played.

For that reason, Cleveland has been named as a potential landing spot for cornerbacks on the market such as Stephon Gilmore. While it doesn’t appear that move is going to happen, they could end up going after another star player if he hits the trade block — Xavien Howard.

The Miami cornerback is going to be seeking a new deal soon but the Dolphins already (over)paid Byron Jones and might not have the money for Howard. If Cleveland moves a few things around for the cap, they could find a way to afford Howard, who has 22 interceptions in his career, including 10 last season.

That kind of game-changer in the secondary would be well worth making a blockbuster trade.
