Cleveland Browns draft: The 2018 picks we wish would have worked out better

2. Chad Thomas, EDGE
In addition to the No. 33 pick used on Austin Corbett and the 35th pick they used on Nick Chubb, the Cleveland Browns also entered the weekend with the 64th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. But once they were on the clock, they decided to drop back a little as they made a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.
This gave Cleveland the 67th pick, which was their only selection in the third since they traded the one they originally had for Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
Once they were finally on the clock, the Browns took Miami defensive end Chad Thomas. Dorsey might have been the GM at the time, but a former VP of player personnel who we all know was also very high on the pick.
"“We thought that Chad, at 6-5, 275 pounds was one of the most physical defensive linemen in the draft,” Vice President of Player Personnel Andrew Berry said following the pick via Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com. “We think he’ll play immediately, his run defense will play immediately in the NFL as a left end in our system. He can kick down and rush the passer from the inside as well.”"
Thomas was injured for the majority of his rookie season but then played in all 16 games with eight starts in 2019 due to injuries suffered by Olivier Vernon and a suspension for Myles Garrett.
He finished with 26 tackles and four sacks but was waived in Sep. 2020, not long after Andrew Berry came back following a season in Philadelphia.
