Cleveland Browns 53-man roster prediction ahead of 2021 training camp
By Randy Gurzi
Cornerback (5)
Denzel Ward
Greg Newsome II
Troy Hill
Greedy Williams
M.J. Stewart
There’s a ton of talent in the Browns cornerback room but there’s also a lot of injury concern. Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams have both missed time in their careers with Williams being out for the entire 2020 campaign.
They’re both incredibly talented but there are concerns. Then there’s Greg Newsome, who was their top pick from this past draft. Newsome is also insanely gifted but he missed an awful lot of time for Northwestern which means he also has concerns.
Troy Hill is slated to play in the slot and he could be the most underrated signing of the offseason. Not many were talking about him and with the Browns adding so many other pieces, he kind of gets glossed over. However, he’s going to be a key piece to this defense and is able to man the slot with ease.
I recently had my mind changed by Brad Ward from ‘All Eyez on Cleveland’ when it comes to the final spot. A.J. Green is a player the Browns like but he’s not built for the slot as Ward discussed in his podcast. While Hill hardly misses time, M.J. Stewart serves as the best insurance policy for that position. That’s why Green is edged out, but he could be back on the practice squad if he’s not snatched up.
