4 Cleveland Browns who should make their first All-Pro team in 2021
By Greg Newland
No. 3 – John Johnson
I believe the best signing by the Cleveland Browns this offseason (and possibly this offseason), was the deal with safety, John Johnson. The former third-round pick who spent his entire rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
Not only is Johnson one of the best ball-hawking safeties in the league, but he is also not afraid to step up to the line of scrimmage and make tackles. In four seasons with the Rams, Johnson has 350 tackles, eight interceptions, and 32 pass deflections. Don’t forget he was limited to only six games in 2019 because of injuries.
Johnson fits in perfectly with this roster. Ronnie Harrison and Grant Delpit with being the utility guys moving all around the field, and Johnson can focus on what he does best. Dropping into zone coverage and following the quarterback’s eyes.
With the pressure upfront generated from Clowney and Garrett, you are going to see quarterbacks make a lot of mistakes. Not even mentioning the lockdown pressure from Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, and Greg Newsome on the outside.
Johnson has all the talent in the world, but the group around him will make his job even easier. With the success the Browns will have in 2021, he should become a first-time All-Pro player.
