Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield said his team has the talent but that won’t matter if they don’t have the chemistry to go along with it

Ever since he joined the Cleveland Browns in 2018, people have said that Baker Mayfield simply “gets it.” Whether they’re talking about the team around him or the city he now represents, that sentiment has been echoed time and again.

And we once again saw proof of that this week.

Mayfield, who took some time out at his youth camp to discuss the upcoming season, said that the team has the talent to win games but that’s not going to matter if they don’t have the chemistry needed to work together as a team.

"“We have a lot of great players, and this isn’t taking anything away from them because I love these guys,’’ Mayfield said Wednesday at his Procamps Youth Football Clinic at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. “But it doesn’t matter who we have, if we don’t have chemistry and we don’t do our jobs, none of it matters.’’ — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com"

Mayfield is absolutely correct in his assessment and Cleveland fans know this all too well. It was just a couple of seasons ago when everyone was expecting them to make a run with Freddie Kitchens only to see them fall to 6-10.

That club struggled when it came to chemistry and doing their individual jobs, and Mayfield understands they have to remain focused in order to prevent another letdown.

In addition to talking about the Browns and their future, Mayfield also spent time with a star from the team’s past this week. Former Cleveland quarterback Bernie Kosar was in attendance and he and Mayfield had a little fun.

According to Nate Ulrich of the Beacon Journal, campers could either catch a pass from Mayfield or play receiver while he tried to cover them. If they took the second option, it was then Kosar delivering the passes. And as we all should have expected, Mayfield was not taking it easy when lining up at cornerback.

Entering his fourth season in the NFL, Baker Mayfield has completely entrenched himself as the face of this franchise. He continues to do and say all the right things and has been true to his word that he’s the leader the Browns needed in order to turn their franchise around.
