Kevin Stefanski likes his tight ends, and all three of Austin Hooper, David Njoku, and Harrison Bryant can rest easy at night knowing both their roster spots are safe and that they will have legitimate roles in 2021. The same cannot necessarily be said for fourth-stringer Stephen Carlson.

The converted wide receiver gives excellent effort and is a skilled route runner for the position because of his smaller size and positional background, but he does not offer a unique skill set or ability in the tight end room.

Connor Davis potentially could. He’s a massive 6-8 and 271 pounds with the potential to be both a red zone weapon and a devastating in-line blocker. Now, to be fair, it’s all potential at this point, as he’s not had much production in college at Stony Brook, in the XFL, or with the New York Jets and New York Jets.

But he’ll have a chance to prove himself in camp. Special teams will be important for him, so blocking is his path to a spot. Humans as big as him don’t grow on trees, and the Browns will leave no stone unturned in an attempt to find value where other teams have missed it.
