Mack Wilson

One of the biggest disappointments last night was seeing Mack Wilson leave the field with another injury, this time it was reported as a shoulder concern. In preseason it’s hard to tell how serious an injury is, him not returning to the game could have just been the team being overly cautious.

We likely won’t know much more until this week when practice begins. It would be a great sign to see him as a full participant, but a huge disappointment if he must miss any game action.

Wilson missed time last year from a knee injury during camp, and never really recovered from it. He had an extremely disappointing season and appeared to be motivated to prove the world wrong in 2021.

I still think Wilson makes the roster just because he had such a good camp. He is a high-energy player that lifts others around him, but another lingering injury certainly hinders his chances of having a significant role on this defense this season.

The fact that rookie, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah played out of his mind, doesn’t help his case either. Even if healthy, Wilson will be the fourth linebacker on the depth chart (best case) behind Anthony Walker, Jacob Phillips, and JOK.

The Browns did play more three linebacker sets last night than I expected which will help Wilson’s case. However, Grand Delpit didn’t play, and teams don’t like to show a ton of exotic formations in a preseason game.
