Cleveland Browns expectation No. 3: Your first look at the offense

With only three preseason games this year, expect this week to be more of the dress rehearsal game, which has typically been the third game. Don’t expect to see a full half with all of the offensive starters, but I would expect to see them at least two drives.

That includes Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry, and the entire starting line. If everything goes well and the offense at least moves the ball and finds a rhythm, there is a good chance two series is all you see.

If the starters come out and really struggle, you may see Stefanski run them out for another series or two. The worst-case scenario would be two three-and-outs or give up a big-time sack on third down that never allows the unit to find a groove.

With no preseason at all last year because of COVID-19, I think the value of the preseason has been diminished, especially for the starters. These guys proved that they can’t get themselves ready to play in an NFL game just with camp.

If all goes well, you will see Mayfield and company for 15-20 snaps. Baker will throw the ball 7-to-10 times for 80-to-100 yards and the starting offense will score 10 points on two drives. Don’t expect any fancy play-calls, but your standard zone runs with a play-action pass sprinkled in.
