Cleveland Browns surprise cut No. 3 – Porter Gustin, Defensive End

One thing that is very apparent from the current 53-man roster is Joe Woods was not impressed by his pass rush in the preseason.  At this point, the Cleveland Browns only have three edge rushers on the roster in Myles Garrett, Jadaveon Clowney, and Takk McKinley.

I don’t like to make guarantees, but it’s almost a fact that the Browns will be in the waiver market for another defensive end who would be the fourth guy on the depth chart.

Currently, the Browns 53-man roster (courtesy of Jake Trotter) has 10 offensive linemen, seven linebackers, and a few guys that will likely move to injured reserve before the start of the season.  That means there is plenty of room to add at least one more defensive end before the start of the season.

10 offensive lineman seems a little aggressive, so look for that to be an area where a reduction could be made in order to create room.  As you read below, you’ll also see there is a chance that a cut wide receiver could also make a comeback.

One of the biggest disappointments this preseason was the lack of pass rush.  Obviously, Garrett and Clowney will make a huge difference, but we all know that injuries happen, and depth is extremely important.  I’m glad to see Berry recognized the weakness and acted quickly.

This one was just a bit surprising because Gustin was by far the best of the worst at end this preseason.  There are no guarantees, anyone, better will be available.
