2. Cleveland Browns K, Chase McLaughlin

Kicker seems to always be a sore subject for Cleveland Browns fans. Ever since Phil Dawson left, there has been one player after another coming in, with no one able to lock down the job for more than a year, maybe two. And every time we mention a kicker struggling and discuss a potential replacement, the same comment is made “Phil Dawson isn’t coming out of retirement.”

Well, we know that. And no one expects him to. But that doesn’t mean the Browns should stop looking for a kicker until they feel 100 percent confident in theirs.

Right now, they enter the year with Chase McLaughlin handling the job but that wasn’t the original plan. Cody Parkey was their primary option, and he was pretty good in 2020. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury and was sent to the IR, which led to McLaughlin landing the job.

However, he missed a 56-yard kick by hitting the crossbar (although it was dead center and would have been good from 55) and shanked an extra-point in the preseason finale. He did hit another field goal but that one nearly grazed the upright, which might also have the front office concerned.

McLaughlin has bounced around the league and he could wind up finding a home with Cleveland, but they could also be looking for his replacement. It’s really anyone’s guess at this point.
