Cleveland Browns FA target No. 1: Vic Beasley

After leading the league in sacks and being first-team All-Pro in 2016 for the Atlanta Falcons, Vic Beasley has been on the decline ever since. After 19.5 sacks in his first two seasons in the league, he’s had only 18 in the last four. That includes the 2020 season where he played five games for two different teams and only registered four total tackles.

What is there to like about Beasley? He’s only 29 years old; he was a top-10 NFL draft pick in 2015, and we have seen him perform at the highest level. There isn’t a question of if he can do it, more of if he will do it again.

The biggest hold-up for the Cleveland Browns to bring a guy like Beasley in would be the price. Will he be willing to take a little less to show that he still has it?

In my opinion, this could be a win for both sides of the situation. The Browns can get a great backup defensive end for a discounted price. And Beasley can get on the field to show he still has it. If he signs a one-year deal and plays well, he could still sign a nice contract for the 2022 season at the age of 30.

Beasley is by no means a long-term solution for the Browns at defensive end, but he could be exactly what the team needs for one season.
