Will Baker Mayfield throw his first touchdown pass of the season and to whom?

In a game that featured 457 offensive yards for the Browns, it is a bit of a surprise that Baker Mayfield didn’t throw a touchdown pass. Some Browns fans have also complained about the team only running the ball 26 times including 21 times between Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

However, they only ran 56 plays offensively the whole game so the balance between passing and throwing was virtually the same. For comparison’s sake, the Houston Texans ran 75 plays against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week one including 41 runs.

If I were a betting man, I’d probably put money on it that Mayfield throws a touchdown pass, but to whom?

The Browns rookie wide receiver and speedster Anthony Schwartz caught three nice catches a week ago for 69 yards. Tight end David Njoku grabbed three catches for 76 yards too. Mayfield actually connected with 10 different players this past game against the Chiefs. That in itself shows how much more Mayfield has advanced in his ability to run the offense well.

Jarvis Landry was old reliable as well last week as he grabbed five passes from Mayfield. We haven’t even mentioned other Browns receivers Donovan Peoples Jones and Rashard Higgins. Neither had much impact on the game last week. I would suspect one of these receivers may get a bit more action on the field, especially with the news that Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is still recovering from his injury a year ago.

There are likely a dozen other questions that we haven’t even touched on for this next game that the Browns battle the Texans. It was a disappointing loss to the Chiefs but the Browns played well but couldn’t complete their mission on the day and the NFL is about winning. I suspect the Browns fans are going to be treated to another good game Sunday. There won’t be a Patrick Mahomes running around the field like we’ve had to watch the previous two games.

Getting to play a different team hopefully will be the medicine the doctor ordered to get these Browns back to their winning ways.
