When the Cleveland Browns signed Jadeveon Clowney and planned to start him across from Myles Garrett, fans began to dream about how monstrous their pass rush could be. Through the first two weeks, they were generating some pressure against the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans but the sacks weren’t following.

Clowney, the former No. 1 pick out of South Carolina back in 2014, had just six tackles with one going for a loss in those two games. He did have three pressures according to Pro Football Reference but just wasn’t finishing the pass rush off. That changed on Sunday against Chicago.

Cleveland as a whole had nine sacks as they made life miserable for rookie Justin Fields. Clowney accounted for two of those sacks while also finding himself in the backfield on several other plays.

When the Browns signed Clowney, they were able to secure him for a rather affordable $8 million contract. One of the reasons for that was that he had just three sacks over the past two seasons including none in eight games for the Titans last season. The other reason he came over at a discount was the injuries that he’s dealt with, which is why he played in just eight games for Tennessee in 2020.

After three games this year, it appears the Browns got a steal in Clowney and his two-sack performance hopefully will open the flood gates for him this season.
