Cleveland Browns Matchup No. 2: Donovan Peoples-Jones vs Bashaud Breeland

This is a classic ‘where’s Waldo’ situation. Bashaud Breeland is the Vikings’ Waldo, and it will be up to Baker Mayfield to find him and find him often. Through three games it would be hard to categorize Breeland’s play as anything other than poor.

This is the week for Donovan Peoples-Jones to see an uptick in targets. The second-year wide receiver leads the Browns in routes run but has yet to see any volume come his way in any particular game. However, when called upon, Peoples-Jones has caught all of his targets (we won’t talk about the Houston game).

This matchup comes down to physical traits and tendencies. Breeland has never been a burner, he ran a 4.62 when he came into the NFL back in 2014 and has gotten by with solid technique and being a scrappy player. This season, whether it is him not trusting the scheme or understanding his assignment, Breeland has looked lost on the field.

Peoples-Jones is a complete receiver, but he is excelling on the boundary at this point in his career. Look for Mayfield to exploit Breeland’s inability to keep Peoples-Jones from getting a free release and connect with DPJ on multiple chunk plays down the sideline.
