Cleveland Browns: 3 trade targets before the NFL deadline
By Greg Newland
Clelin Ferrell – Defensive End
One of the biggest shocks on draft night in 2019 was when the Las Vegas Raiders selected Clelin Ferrell with the No. 4 overall pick. He was certainly rated a first-round prospect, but nowhere near the top five.
To this point, Ferrell has not found his way with the Raiders. He was inactive during Week 1 and has played minimal snaps the first four weeks of the 2021 season. Not to mention, the Raiders fourth-round pick in 2019, Maxx Crosby, has turned into a star pass rusher.
Why would the Browns have interest in a guy like Ferrell? He’s a first-round talent that has just fallen below expectations. No. 1 – the Browns could get him for cheap. No. 2 – a change of scenery and being around guys like Myles Garrett and Jadaveon Clowney could be exactly what Ferrell needs to turn his career around.
Remember, this is a guy who started 15 games as a rookie and had 4.5 sacks, so there is some talent there. The Cleveland Browns currently have three solid pass rushers on the team with Takk McKinley complimenting Garrett and Clowney, but a fourth wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
There’s a good chance that Clowney won’t return in 2022. He’s already having a strong season so he will likely get big money to go to another team. Adding a guy like Ferrell now could just be another piece of building for the future.
