Can the real Baker Mayfield stand up for Cleveland Browns?

There’s been plenty of negative chatter this week about the lousy game by Baker Mayfield this past week. He was 15 for 33 which was good for just 45 percent. So the discussion is warranted but he’s had so few awful performances in the past that it’s become more of a story because it’s not something we are used to seeing.

If you say it’s common, then you simply don’t pay attention to what Mayfield has done over the last three years plus.

The last time Mayfield threw for less than 50 percent accuracy was back on the last game of the 2019 season against the Cincinnati Bengals, a game the Browns lost embarrassingly. He had three games that season where he threw for less than 50 percent.

As for the worst game of his career, that was actually that 2019 Sunday Night Football Game against the San Francisco 49ers where the Browns lost 31-3 and his completion percentage was 36 percent. Yikes!

So what happened last Sunday was so rare it’s almost not worth discussing, even if half the Browns faithful think the world is flat and coming to an end.

It’s not coming to an end but is noteworthy because the oddity of the occurrence is as rare as a Hawaiian volcano erupting.

I look for a bounce-back game from Mayfield. He’s back under the sunny skies of California and that will motivate him for no other reason.
