Cleveland Browns Matchup No. 3: Myles Garrett vs Rashawn Slater

The Chargers have struck gold in the first round of the NFL draft for the second year in a row. Not only did the Chargers get two stellar first-round picks in back-to-back drafts, but they did it at the most crucial positions possible. One year after selecting their future franchise quarterback in the first round, the Chargers nailed down their franchise left tackle in Rashawn Slater.

Through four games, Slater has done more than held his own, the rookie has excelled and kept his quarterback clean in the process. Fast forward to week five and now Slater is going to face as steep of test as there is the NFL, Myles Garrett. The defensive player of the year candidate, as he always is, has been simply unblockable.

Garrett leads the NFL in sacks (6), quarterback hits (14), tackles for loss (seven) and is second in quarterback pressures with 24. In short, Garrett is an absolute game wrecker and is a problem for any left tackle in the NFL, let alone a rookie like Slater.

The Chargers would be wise to give Slater as much help as possible in his matchup with Garrett. Double teams, chip blocks, and scheming around Garrett should all be on the table for Los Angeles. But at the end of the day, there will be a handful of reps that the rookie will truly be one on one with Garrett. Thoughts and prayers to the rookie.
