Cleveland Browns Under the Radar Player No. 2: Harrison Bryant

The Browns and Baker Mayfield were finally able to unlock David Njoku in Week 5. The uber-athletic tight end caught seven balls for 149 yards and a touchdown. The fifth-year veteran is a walking mismatch but up until last Sunday, Njoku had remained an afterthought of the Browns passing attack.

However, Njoku is not the only dynamic receiving threat that the Browns have on their roster. Second-year tight end Harrison Bryant is also capable of stretching defenses with his big-play potential. The Browns, and their fanbase, seem to be bent on turning this offense into something that it simply is not.

Instead of worrying about how many touches Odell Beckham has, or questioning whether or not Mayfield is pushing the ball downfield enough, the Browns should lean into what they truly are. A downhill running, play-action team, that can use multiple formations to dictate the terms of engagement.

The Browns need to recognize what they have in terms of personnel and make teams skip to their Lou and not the other way around. With the injury situation at the offensive tackle position, the Browns need to operate out of heavier personnel groupings bringing multiple tight ends into the fold. With the attention due to Njoku, and Hooper in short-yardage, Harrison Bryant is a prime candidate to play a larger role in the offense this week.

That doesn’t mean that Bryant needs excessive looks, but three or four targets should be in play for the former Mackey Award winner against the Cardinals on Sunday.
