Cleveland Browns Under the Radar Player No. 1: Anthony Schwartz

If someone sparks up a conversation about Browns wide receivers, it’s only a matter of time before that conversation becomes about Odell Beckham Jr. As painful as this is for fans to acknowledge, not all of the Browns eggs are in the proverbial OBJ basket.

Instead of constantly focusing on the OBJ and Baker connection, shift the focus to using Beckham’s presence to their advantage. The Browns have a ton of talented pass catchers and there needs to be a concerted effort to involve them organically in the flow of the game. One such game-breaking option is rookie Anthony Schwartz.

Schwartz, like the previously mentioned Bryant, is a player that does not require a ton of volume and would maximize the overall effectiveness of the offense. At a minimum, the Browns should be using Schwartz in 12 personnel opposite of Beckham to generate shot plays down the boundary.

Even if the attempt is blatantly obvious, the Browns would be forcing the defense’s hand to favor one or the other, thus opening up opportunities between the hashes.

Schwartz was drafted due in large part to his Olympic-level speed. Now is the time to let the rookie use that unique gift and unlock the big play potential that the offense could tap into once or twice a game. Schwartz has been getting some work as a kick returner recently and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks one.

One way or another, it is time for Schwartz to announce his arrival as a playmaker for the Browns. Week six against the undefeated Cardinals seems like the perfect opportunity for the speedster to make his mark on the season.
