Cleveland Browns Defensive Player of the Quarter – Myles Garrett

Who else would win the Defensive Player of the Quarter award but the man himself, the best player on the team, Myles “Flash” Garrett?

Garrett has gotten back to dominating opposing offensive lines and terrorizing the opposing signal-callers. The Browns superstar edge rusher leads the NFL in sacks so far this season with seven, including a huge four and a half-sack performance against the Chicago Bears. The only game where Garrett didn’t get to the quarterback was against the Houston Texans, which ended up being his worst statistical game of the season.

His production this season has been helped in part by the addition of Jadeveon Clowney on the opposite edge. Garrett’s having a monster season that could vault him to the top of the actual Defensive Player of the Year conversations should Trevon Diggs take a step back. Through five games he’s recorded 21 total tackles, 16 quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss, seven sacks, and a pass breakup.

This season, unlike his previous ones, feels as though he could actually make some noise and solidify himself as a consistent top-five pass rusher in the NFL. Garrett’s defensive leadership has allowed this team to dominate against some pretty potent offenses and has allowed for other opportunities for guys along the line to get in the backfield when all the focus is on him.

Not only has Garrett been the best defensive player and the Defensive Player of the Quarter for the Browns, but he’s also been a borderline MVP caliber player. Shoutout to the rest of the Browns defense for being one of the most fun and impactful units to watch alongside Garrett, but this is an individual award so it has to go to the man himself.
