Baker Mayfield: Fracture puts remainder of season in jeopardy
By Randy Gurzi
Baker Mayfield reportedly has a fractured humerus in his left shoulder and that could mean the Cleveland Browns QB’s season is in jeopardy
Before the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos took the field on Thursday night, there was a big news bomb. Jay Glazer of FOX said that Baker Mayfield admitted to him that he has a fractured humerus in his left shoulder in addition to the partially torn shoulder labrum.
Mayfield added that he wants to get back on the field quickly but that he needs the fracture to heal in order for the rotator cuff to do what it’s supposed to do.
Over the past four weeks, Mayfield has been pushing through the pain of the torn labrum but in Week 6, he was sacked by J.J. Watt of the Arizona Cardinals and was in visible pain. On that play, he landed awkwardly on the arm and it bent behind his body slightly.
That was when he suffered the fracture. And while Mayfield is saying all the right things about getting back on the field, it’s not as if a bone heals overnight. Oftentimes, it takes several weeks.
With that being the case, there’s a real chance that Mayfield’s season could be in jeopardy due to the shoulder injury.
The good news is, the Browns have a solid reserve in Case Keenum. However, Keenum is a backup for a reason. He can keep the team treading water, but they’re not getting as far as they can with No. 6.
Here’s to hoping Mayfield heals quickly and returns in 2021.
