What on Earth should we expect from Cleveland Browns defensive secondary?

Your guess is as good as mine. There’s been a lot of grumbling amongst Browns fans as to who is to blame the most because quite honestly neither the coaches nor the players seem to care. I tend to place the blame on the coach for the catastrophe we’ve witnessed the last few weeks.

Those two games the Browns won back to back, where the defense only gave up six and seven points seem like the outliner in this pattern of dysfunction. Where do you start?

I’d start by seeing what the players do on Thursday. If they show no effort and are looking confused and pointing fingers at one another then I’d have to really consider the coaching and defensive coordinator Joe Woods and his abilities to reach this group of players.

We react differently to different people. Right? So maybe a change of view and coaching would do this team some good. If you’re the Browns front office, then you have to take a more serious look at the biggest problem with this team and that’s the secondary of the defense.

I expect Thursday night will be much of the same we’ve come to see this season. Giving up big plays and wide-open receivers is becoming the norm and that shouldn’t be the case. Until that bleeding-out part of the team is patched up then this Browns team will continue to struggle and not win many more games this season.

I’d hope that those defensive linemen like Malik McDowell, Myles Garrett, and Jadeveon Clowney are putting a bug in those cornerbacks and safety’s ears. But I believe this issue can be resolved by a change in the coaching. Let’s hope for improvement Thursday but be prepared to move in a different direction in the future.
