Cleveland Browns Key No. 3 – Tighten up coverage

There is no doubt that the Detroit Lions are one of the worst teams in the NFL. Sadly, there is far more pressure on the Browns this week though than the Lions. Although they didn’t get a win, a tie last week vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers takes the fear of a winless season away.

The Lions haven’t won a game because the roster just isn’t great. They don’t have a great receiver, they struggle to run the ball at times, and Jared Goff wasn’t traded by the Rams because he is a fantastic quarterback.

Cleveland needs to start fast and make life hell for Goff. Joe Woods needs to tighten up coverage and constantly be blitzing Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and/or Grant Delpit. What do average quarterbacks struggle with the most? Constant pressure.

I know you have a solid defensive line that can get pressure with four at times, but I don’t want to see the Lions offense ever even get a chance to get comfortable.

It makes things harder with Troy Hill likely out, but you have depth at the position. Hopefully, A.J. Greene and Greedy Williams will be a go and you must turn to the next-man-up mentality.

It feels to me like Woods is so afraid to give up the big play that he is scared to run his defense. Forget that buddy, cut it loose on Sunday. You’ll likely be looking for a job next year anyway if things don’t get substantially better.
